Hey everyone!

Wow, nearly a month in the job now...to sound like an almighty cliché but time really has flown! Last week I was in Athlone with the rest of the team at USI Student Union Training. It was really worthwhile going. I got some great advice especially on how to deal with college authorities. That seminar, more than the others, could prove vitally important while I'm in office.

Besides the classes SUT was a great chance to network and I met education officers from all over the country. Best part was when we had an open discussion in Education 101. This gave us the chance to share ideas for various initiatives and to exchange tips for the coming year (great for me being the nube!)

In terms of work well we're all guns blazing here! Major thing this week was getting the text ready for my various leaflets like exam guides ready, so they can be designed and have them waiting to be sent off to the printers.

One of my main campaign/manifesto promises was internship information. I'm currently working on a proposal in relation to an Internship Scheme in UCD so watch that space!

Drafting budgets is also a big thing at the moment as I'm sure ye know so getting that done as well has been an experience...considering I've never had to make such a comprehensive budget before. Junior Cert household budgets seem like such a thing of the past now!

Today was a particularly interesting day. The Irish Times are doing a series of videos for incoming CAO applicants on issue like accommodation. Myself and Cat (USI Education Officer) spoke in the video about grants and the new system, SUSI.

I realise my Blog isn't nearly as interesting as Mícheál psychoanalysing us all, but I just want to give ye an idea of what I'm up to over the summer! I must say though Mícheál's analysis of me; did ye think it was accurate? Let me know!!

Sin mo phíosa don seachtain seo. An tUasal Guiney ag teacht lena bhlog amárach! Go dtí an seachtain seo chugainn a cháirde Ghael!

Shane

P.S. feel free to correct my Irish; it's probably a bit rusty!
