Situations Vacant

UCD Students' Union is currently accepting applications for the following full-time positions (please note these positions are subject to approval by the Independent Appeals Board of UCD Students' Union):

FULL-TIME POSITIONS:

1) Policy & Research Assistant

Main duties:
Working under the President and alongside the four Vice-Presidents, to research where requested any relevant material and assisting in the development of SU policy as part of SU policy initiatives or in response to a university/national development or proposal.

Basic duties include:

  • Researching any material on any topic as requested.
  • Assisting and supporting SU policy objectives and strategies.
  • Compiling briefing and policy documents.
  • Producing written materials such as briefings, guidance and reports for stakeholders and the public.
  • Providing regular progress reports.
  • Monitoring and engaging with relevant developments in other education sectors.
  • Reviewing any proposals made by stakeholders, e.g.UCD, USI, HEA, etc.
  • Reading and summarising documents and briefing officers.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the President or four Vice-Presidents.

The succesful candidate:

  • Must have previous experience in research and policy development.
  • Must have an interest and desire to work in a university atmosphere.
  • Must hold a positive attitude with excellent self-motivation and ability to work on their own initiative.
  • Must have desire and ability to work as part of a team
  • Must have proven IT skills.
  • Must have excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to work flexibly under pressure, to prioritise and to meet deadlines.
  • Must have first-class written English skills with an ability to write informative, accurate and creative copy.
  • Must have and excellent eye for detail and proof-reading skills.
  • Must be educated to degree level.
  • Must adhere to the strictest confidence.

Payment: Negotiable

2) Media & Communications Assistant

Main duties:
Working under the President and alongside the four Vice-Presidents to develop and maintain a visible media strategy both within the UCD student media and where necessary the national media. Writing press releases on behalf of UCD Students' Union and dealing on a daily basis with all media queries and briefing officers on media reports that affect the officers' portfolios as well as preparing officers for media interviews. Devising and implementing (under the guidance of the President and Communications Vice-President) PR campaigns to maximise positive public relations within UCD and the wider community and to assist in the marketing of the UCD Students' Union brand. Assisting where directed by the President or Vice-Presidents in the development of all SU publications.

Basic duties include:

  • Writing statements to the press on behalf of UCD Students' Union, as directed by the President.
  • Developing a media strategy that will maximise positive exposure of UCD Students' Union within the local and national media.Briefing officers on media reports affecting their portfolios.
  • Responding to media queries.
  • Preparing officers before any interview.
  • Offering all necessary support to officers in the production of all UCD Students' Union material.
  • Proof-reading any documents as requested by an officer of the SU.
  • Promote any UCD Students' Union campaign or event, maximising exposure.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the President or four Vice-Presidents.

3) Logistics & Operations Assistant

Main duties:
Working closely with the Students’ Union President and Vice-Presidents in the production, organisation, setting-up and management of campaigns, activities and events run by UCD Students’ Union and UCD Ents.

Basic duties include:

  • Working with the Campaigns Vice-President and relevant part-time officers in solving logistics issues pertaining to SU campaigns, including - but not limited to - Orientation Week, Freshers' Week, examinations support, and other campaigns.
  • Working with the President and four Vice-Presidents in planning, organising, setting up and breakdown various SU activities and events across all sabbatical officer portfolios.
  • Assisting the Entertainments Vice-President in solving logistics issues pertaining to UCD Ents events.
  • Helping the set-up and the breakdown of UCD Ents events on the Belfield campus and in other locations, including the handling and operation of technical equipment.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the President or four Vice-Presidents.

The sucesssful candidate:

  • Must have previous experience in the area of event management/co-ordination.
  • Must have an interest and desire to work in a university atmosphere.
  • Must hold a positive attitude with excellent self-motivation and ability to work on their own initiative.
  • Must have desire and ability to work as part of a team
  • Must have proven IT skills.
  • Must have excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to work flexibly under pressure, to prioritise and to meet deadlines
