UCD Residences Price Freeze
SU SECURE PRICE FREEZE & INSTALLMENT SCHEME FOR
ON-CAMPUS RESIDENCES
The price of on-campus accommodation in UCD is set to be frozen for the upcoming academic year 2011/2012 and will be introduced along with a new installments system for students.
SU President Paul Lynam said "Following extensive work and negotiation by the SU with the University we are pleased to have secured both the price freeze and installments scheme for students."
"The extra installment will mean students can now spread the cost of paying for accommodation across payments in September, January and March. The new system will relieve some of the extra financial burden being faced by students."
The new system will come into effect from the next academic year, 2011/12.
Lynam added "On-campus accommodation is a vital aspect of life here at UCD and we want to ensure it remains an attractive option for students. First year students in particular can benefit from living on-campus and we hope this announcement will make this route more affordable."
SU Welfare officer Scott Ahearn said "It's a massive step forward but not the finished article and we will continue to make the installment scheme more student friendly and hopefully will lead to the introduction of further instalment options"
"I hope this new scheme will ease the financial barriers for families, especially around the Christmas period with the new 20% instalment now due in January."
