The first thing you’ll notice is that the College of Science is huge, both in terms of the size of the buildings and the number of people. It also feels like you’re in an Airport but alas you’re not going on your holidays. This can be a bit daunting, especially if you don’t know many people. But there are a few things which can help kick start your college life in science with ease.
Don’t worry and be yourself. College is about that to a large extent. It’s a group of people figuring themselves and the world. If you get involved in a club or society, don’t be worried about impressing everyone off the bat. Just enjoy it and you’ll wind up making friends with people who can see you’re having the craic.
SciSoc (Science Society) is the largest society within the College of Science, and as the name suggests, it covers every school. It doesn’t matter what field you’ve decided to study, from Computer Science to Actuary, joining SciSoc is a must.
The Science building is a bit lacking in printers compared to the other building in UCD, nonetheless we still have them. If you go in the Science East entrance, keep going straight past the winding staircase and then turn right you will see them. They have all the same programmes on them as the computers in Daedalus and other computer labs so they can be great for last minute assignments.
