Position Description


The Programme Assistant will assist the Programme Manager with tasks associated with the set up and delivery of the UCD Summer High School Programme, which is designed as a pre-university program for students from the United States. Programme Assistants work as team members with other staff to plan, advertise and execute activities, create community norms and behavioural expectations, and respond in the event of emergency. During the programme, the Programme Assistant will serve as a live-in residential assistant and a point of contact for the US students. The Program Managers are seeking 6-7 qualified candidates to assist with supervision of approximately 30-35 students.


Principal Duties:


  • Assist the Programme Manager with preparation, coordination and delivery of the programme activities

  • Assist with queries from students and parents

  • Help prepare for academic and non-academic activity

  • Assist with airport transfers, move-in, orientation

  • Supervise students overnight and during off-campus excursions

  • Promote student participation and positive attitudes in all activities

  • Ensure students keep to strict timekeeping and general rules of the programme


Job Requirements:


  • Candidates must be current students in undergraduate or postgraduate programs at UCD

  • Availability during the entire period from 6 July to 21 July 2023

  • Attend pre-sessional training 4-5 July (on-campus accommodation will be available during training time) 

  • Live in university housing for the duration of the programme (6 July to 21 2023)

  • Ability to use good judgement

  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral

  • Willingness to accept and follow through with responsibility

  • The ability to create and maintain professional relationships with students and other staff 


Preferred Experience:


  • Prior experience working with secondary school aged students is preferred

  • Prior experience working in a team

  • First aid training is also preferred but not required.

  • Previous Garda vetting is preferred but not required, although successful candidates will be required to complete the vetting process prior to 6 July.
