Get to know your new Graduate Officer:
'My Name is Carla Gummerson, I am 32 and I am currently studying a Master of Public Policy.
I completed my undergraduate degree in 2019, it was in Social Science studying Social Policy and Sociology. During my undergraduate degree I was a peer mentor and Social Science Ambassador for two years, being a mentor was one of the best experiences of my time in UCD. It allowed me to share such invaluable knowledge, this was to make the lives of first year students that bit easier.
Over the last two years I have been the auditor of the Mature Students Society. During my time as auditor my skills in leadership and teamwork has excelled. Being the auditor I was able to help out in many roles, from ordinary member to treasurer giving me knowledge in diverse areas of the society.
As a society we fundraised for Homeless Period Ireland and raising much needed awareness surrounding period poverty. We have integrated ourselves into the mature student life. This was the first place I got to meet post graduate students on a personal level. The society is a place for postgraduates to meet other students who have the same responsibilities and needs internally and externally. Which in turn can help them to feel integrated into UCD life.
I feel I have always been an advocate for the student body. I was the student voice on various committees. I personally feel that from these activities, that I have gain the knowledge and skills to be an effective graduate officer. I would love to have the chance to be an advocate for postgraduate students.'
