UCD STUDENTS’ UNION OFFICIALLY STANDS WITH NURSES AND MIDWIVES
Today, Friday 25 January, UCD Students’ Union has announced that it officially supports the INMO campaign to Stand with Nurses and Midwives.
Barry Murphy, Students’ Union President said;
‘UCD nursing and midwifery students are a large cohort of the membership of UCDSU and our nursing alumni populate the Irish health sector. We are committed to supporting their fight for better pay and working conditions and stand in solidarity with them in their upcoming strike action.’
Stephen Crosby, Education Officer, UCD Students’ Union said;
‘It's great to see student nurses strike alongside their colleagues. From an academic perspective, I encourage any UCD student nurses or midwives who will be striking to follow the IMNO advice and speak to the strike committee in their hospital to ensure they will meet the minimum requirements to pass their placement if they strike. The IMNO have suggested that the requirements will be set on a hospital to hospital basis. We are here to support you if you have any academic queries or concerns. If any students have any questions about their degree or the strike they can reach out to me at email@example.com'
Melissa Plunkett, Welfare Officer, UCD Students’ Union said;
‘As a student midwife I have seen the reality of hospitals both general and maternity being short staffed due to retention and recruitment. I have watched friends and family move abroad after graduating because the wage here in Ireland is not realistic. If you are a UCD nursing / midwifery student, undergraduate or postgraduate get in touch with your hospitals strike committee.’
