UCD STUDENTS’ UNION SHOPS BOYCOTT ISRAELI GOODS
IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF PALESTINE
Today, to mark the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People, UCD Students’ Union launched a campaign to boycott Israeli goods in Student Union owned shops. The Students’ Union runs three shops across campus where all profits go towards helping students.
Joanna Siewierska, UCD Students’ Union President said;
In April 2018, UCD Students’ Union Council voted to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) movement. An important part of this mandate is to ensure that our organisation is adhering to the BDS campaign.
Our Commercial Services Manager reviewed all of our products and reached out to our suppliers to ensure that none of the products we sell are produced or manufactured in Israel.
We are delighted to say that SU shops do not sell any products that are produced or manufactured in Israel. This is a really important campaign as we cannot hope to influence change across the university or nationally if we are not looking inwards first.’
Ms. Fatin Al Tamimi, the Chairperson of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and a Palestinian-Irish citizen, congratulated UCD SU saying:
‘It is simply wonderful to see so many young people, especially university students, getting engaged with the issue of Palestine, and BDS in particular. I thank UCD SU for this important show of solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice and equality.’
