UCDSU met with Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD on Sex Education and Period Poverty

UCDSU met with Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD to speak about rolling out sex education across primary and secondary schools, the issue of period poverty for third level students, as well as our concerns over UCD's speculative figures regarding students time on campus for the coming semester.

It was agreed that age appropriate sexual education, free from religious influence, was needed in all levels of education, starting from primary school as soon as possible. To learn about consent from a young age would give children opportunities to develop more healthy relationships, and protect them from sexual, physical and emotional abuse.

Deputy Carroll MacNeill and UCDSU will stay in touch to work together on eradicating period poverty on campus.

Deputy Carroll MacNeill will also help UCDSU to seek help from the Minister for Higher Education in regards to the unclear road map UCD has for its students come September.
