DUBLIN BUS IS BACK - LET’S KEEP IT GOING

YOUR UNION HAS SPOKEN WITH BUS UNIONS AND DUBLIN BUS

FULL BUS SERVICES HAVE RESUMED IN UCD AT NIGHT

Katie O’Dea, Campaigns and Engagement Officer, UCD Students’ Union said;

‘We are delighted to say that Dublin Bus has resumed full services for UCD students.

Over the past 30 years the evening bus service to Belfield has been hit ’n’ miss because of anti-social behaviour on buses leaving campus at night time. Bus unions (SIPTU and NBRU) told their drivers not to stop at UCD after 10pm. This meant that many students studying in the library, attending society events or training with sports clubs in the evening had issues getting home afterwards.

UCDSU brought all stakeholders to the table - SIPTU and NBRU (the unions who represent bus drivers), Donnybrook Gardaí, Dublin Bus management and UCD Estate Services. Together we have created a Community Forum to meet five times throughout the year to ensure that we do not lose bus services from UCD again.

If you want to learn more about the campaign, do drop down to the SU and pick up one of our leaflets or drop me an email on campaigns@ucdsu.ie if you have any questions.’

Joanna Siewierska, President of UCD Students’ Union said;

‘We are excited to announce that Dublin Bus are once again stopping at all times on UCD campus. As a Students' Union we are keen to ensure that this positive relationship continues and that buses continue to serve our students and the local community, while bus drivers remain safe at work.

We hope that the small number of people who engage in this behaviour will act responsibly and respectfully when travelling to town at night from UCD and that all members of the UCD community will be able to benefit from a fully running service.’
