Get Involved
Running the Union is a team effort.
No single person, and no single elected officer, speaks for every student at UCD.
It takes a team — reps, councils, committees and crews — to make sure
every voice gets heard, on campus and beyond. Here are all the ways you can be part of it.
Pick one, pick a few, and get stuck in.
Represent & Decide
The formal democratic structures — where students set policy and hold the Union to account.
Run for Class Rep
Be the first point of contact for your class, work with the Union, and bring their voice straight to University decision makers.
Class Reps are elected by their classmates to raise issues, share updates, and make
sure no one's course experience gets lost in the system. UCDSU runs training and
ongoing support all year, so you don't need experience going in — just the
willingness to listen and follow through.
Attend Union Council
The Union's main decision-making body — While only elected class reps can vote, any UCD student can attend and participate in the topics of the day.
Union Council is where policy gets debated and passed, sabbatical officers are held
to account, and the direction of the Union is set for the year. Any student can
attend, speak and vote on motions. Dates and agendas are posted ahead of each meeting.
Attend your local College Council
Your college's own forum — feeding straight into the wider Union.
Each college runs its own Council, where Class Reps and students raise course- and
college-specific issues, elect College Officers, and set priorities before matters
move up to Union Council. It's the layer of democracy closest to your day-to-day
college experience.
Campaign & Advocate
Issue-led groups turning what students care about into organised pressure and action.
Student Housing Action Group
Campaigning on the housing crisis, from rent pressure to accommodation supply.
SHAG organises campaigns, actions and advocacy on student housing, working alongside
the wider housing movement. If you care about rent, digs, or the accommodation
crisis, this is where students turn frustration into organised pressure.
Climate Action Committee
Pushing UCD and the Union to act on climate and sustainability.
The Climate Action Committee campaigns for sustainability on campus and beyond, from
divestment to everyday environmental practice. Open to anyone who wants student
politics to take climate seriously.
Coiste Gaeilge
Ag cur na Gaeilge chun cinn ar champas — imeachtaí agus tacaíocht araon.
Eagraíonn Coiste Gaeilge imeachtaí, feachtais agus tacaíocht as Gaeilge, agus
cinntíonn siad go bhfuil guth agus baile ag cainteoirí Gaeilge laistigh den Aontas.
Cuma cén leibhéal Gaeilge atá agat, tá fáilte romhat.
Create & Connect
Hands-on crews building the content, community and craic that make the Union feel like one.
SU Media Crew
Photography, video, design and content for everything the Union does.
The Media Crew is behind the photos, videos and social content that tell the Union's
story. If you're into content creation, or want to build a portfolio while doing
something that matters, this is a hands-on way in.
Postgraduate Crew
Events, campaigns and community built for postgrad life.
Postgraduate Crew exists because postgrad life doesn't look like undergrad life. It runs
events, socials and campaigns designed around the postgraduate experience, and gives
graduate students a dedicated space within the Union.
Ents Crew
The team behind gigs, events and nights out across the year.
Ents Crew plans and runs the Union's gigs, events and nightlife, from big headline
shows to smaller nights on campus. If you want to help build the year's social
calendar, this is the crew for it.
