My name is Leighton Gray and I am your C&E Officer. I was the auditor of UCD for Choice in the year of Repeal, and am the LGBTQ+ Campaign Coordinator for UCDSU.
I've been involved in climate, rent, mental health, end Direct Provision, and consent campaigns. I will continue my constant dedication to campaigns throughout my term.
Let's show how emotional we truly are with sustained protest, sit ins, and press releases year round. We cannot afford to let rents rise any higher, or force more students into homelessness.
UCD does have some supports for trans students, but not a lot of people know about them. We need on-campus and online campaigns to make sure all trans students can benefit.
Mental Health Services
We do not need to raise awareness to the university that Ireland has a devastating record when it comes to mental health; they already know this. Action is needed by putting pressure on the university through protest.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
I propose we coordinate our own Friday's for Climate. Every Friday we can interact with students through social media, to share info on how to be more sustainable. Once a month we can stage our own sit in protest for system change, not climate change.
Break the formula
The SU tries talks first, and protests second. Let's switch this up! Students are often unsure what the union is doing behind closed doors, and therefore participation in protests in semester two aren't reaching their full potential. Increasing student agency and engagement is vital.
Action comes in many different forms. To make sure everyone is included, all campaigns would include email drives, letter drives, writing articles, and workshops
