After a summer of hard work, the new UCD Students’ Union (UCDSU) team are putting together the final few pieces to welcome new and returning students back to UCD. There is sure to be a lot of anticipation around the return to campus with UCD gearing up to welcome 33,000+ new and returning students ready for the new year.
With thousands set to make UCD their CAO choice, UCDSU has introduced its newly elected team on its website and social media channels so students will have some familiar faces to look forward to in September. Students opting for UCD in the CAO will also be joined by students from all over the world who will make UCD their home as part of ERASMUS and exchange programmes for the 2023-2024 Academic Year.
UCD Students’ Union is an organisation dedicated to ensuring fairness, opportunities and a voice for the whole student community within the university. Students become part of the students’ union once they register as UCD students.
In September, students will be asked to choose their class reps, who, as well as dealing with issues at a local level as they arise, will help to steer SU policy at Union Council and hold the elected officers to account. Every year, students vote to elect a new team of Full Time and Part Time Officers. Any registered UCD student can put themselves forward for election.
The UCDSU motto is ‘Empowering Students’, which speaks to the SU’s, purpose; to help UCD students take ownership of their student experience and get the absolute most out of it.
Speaking on welcoming students back to UCD, UCDSU President Martha Ní Riada said;
“We are so excited to welcome everyone back to UCD in September and even more excited to meet the new group of first-years embarking on their third-level journey. We have been working tirelessly to ensure that your Orientation and Freshers Weeks are as fun, informed and action-packed as possible. We here at UCDSU are here to ensure that you get the most out of your student experience. We're on hand to answer any questions or issues you may have with regards to your college life.”
With huge events and campaigns that they are excited to share with everyone, UCDSU is looking forward to welcoming students back to UCD on the 11th of September and meeting new students just 2 days after, on the 13th of September.
