UCDSU Welcomes Delay of Busconnects Phase 6A; calls for permanent solution for students

UCD Students' Union (UCDSU) is pleased to announce that the National Transport Authority (NTA) has delayed the rollout of BusConnects Phase 6A, which includes the planned removal of the 145 bus route, until January 2025.

This deferral ensures that students will retain direct access between Heuston Station and UCD throughout the crucial exam season, providing much-needed relief for those who rely on this route for their daily commute.

While the NTA’s official statement cites the avoidance of disruptions for Christmas shoppers and holiday-goers as the main reason for the deferment, this decision will also have a significant positive impact on UCD students who would otherwise face additional commuting challenges during a busy time of year.

UCDSU President Miranda Bauer said, “This is a positive development for students as we approach the exam and assessment period. We will continue to engage with both the NTA and the Department of Transport to ensure that the long-term transport needs of UCD students are prioritised in the ongoing redesign of Dublin’s public transport network. Our goal is to secure a permanent solution that keeps UCD accessible to students, no matter where they are coming from.”

UCDSU remains committed to advocating for the accessibility of UCD to all students, and will continue to press for a transport network that meets their needs.
