The Role of A Sabbat

The President is the CEO and Chief Spokesperson for the Union. They are the leader of the Executive.
The President will be an active member of the Board of Directors and as such, will be responsible for ensuring the responsible management of Students’ Union finances. They will work with the Board and the SU finance team to prepare the annual budget.
They are responsible for working with the Board of Directors and relevant SU Staff to ensure that the Union leads out on all strategic plans and developments.
They will work closely with SU Staff & their elected team members to ensure the student voice is accurately represented and communicated on a local and national level. This includes representing students at some of the most senior management committees of the University.
On a day-to-day basis, the President is tasked with setting the political direction of the organisation.
The President coordinates all College Officer activity. They are responsible for working with the relevant SU Staff to ensure that all members of the Exec receive induction training during the summer months.

The Welfare Officer is responsible for issues relating to student health, happiness and wellbeing on campus. They will run at least one campaign per semester focused on promoting student wellbeing or tackling some of the issues that have a negative impact on student welfare. They act as an SU point of contact for student cases, and work closely with UCD staff and relevant external agencies to develop and maintain an efficient referral system.

The Graduate Officer is the SU’s first point of contact for all student issues facing postgraduate students, and should work to improve the student experience for all graduate students on both the Belfield and Smurfit campuses. They should ensure they maintain a regular presence on the Smurfit campus, and work with the relevant team members to hold at least two events for Graduate students per semester.
They are responsible for recruiting graduate Class Reps to the Union Council, and should work closely with those reps throughout the year to maximise graduate participation and representation at relevant Boards and Committees.
They should work with their team and the relevant University departments to encourage career development and promote employment opportunities for graduate students.
They should take an active lead in all national campaigns relating to graduate students.

The Entertainments Officer should work closely with the relevant University departments and SU Staff to organise and coordinate entertainment events for UCD students, providing several major events each year. Working with the President and SU Staff, they are responsible for preparing and adhering to an approved budget for each event.
They should work closely with all Sabbatical Officers, and should assist them with the preparation and coordination of any approved SU events. They should act as a point of contact for Class Reps and College Officers who wish to organise events for their constituencies.
They are responsible for recruiting the Entertainments Forum and chairing all Forum meetings.
The Entertainments Officer is responsible for the SU’s fundraising activities for the year. They should act as an ambassador for the SU’s chosen charity partner(s) for the year, set and communicate clear goals for fundraising activities and coordinate all volunteer activity at charity events. They should seek to organise at least one major charity fundraising event per semester.

They will act as the SU’s point of contact for all academic related issues; including access, quality assurance, grants & supports, and assessments. Throughout the course of the year, they should run at least two campaigns that tackle education issues facing students.
The Education Officer will represent students on a wide range of University Boards and Committees. They work closely with members of Exec and Union Class Reps to maximise student participation and representation at relevant Boards and Committees.
They should schedule a meeting with the elected student representatives before each Academic Council meeting to discuss key topics being discussed.
They should work with the relevant departments within the University to provide suitable careers information, and should work on projects that will increase future employability options for current student members.

They are responsible for working with Exec and the relevant SU Staff to ensure the efficient organisation and coordination of all SU campaigns, both locally and nationally.
They should work closely with Exec and the relevant SU Staff organise Class Rep recruitment and training. They are responsible for updating the Union Policy Book after each Council meeting, and notifying the team if any mandates are due to expire.
They should work closely with the President and relevant SU Staff to have an input into the running of all SU publications, and are responsible for coordinating the distribution of all Union notices and materials on campus.
They are responsible for coordinating the promotion of all Union elections and referendums.
The Campaigns and Engagement Officer should maintain a close relationship with Clubs and Societies.
They should work closely with all Sabbatical Officers, and should assist them with the preparation and coordination of any approved SU campaigns.
They should have an active interest in national issues relating to students, and should build relationships with other Students’ Unions in the attempt to work together to pursue national campaigns.
