UCDSU Business College Officer elected
On Monday at UCDSU Union Council, 24-year-old MSc Strategic Management student, Simon Van Beek win a hotly contested By-election to emerge as the new Business College Officer. The position had been vacant following the 2023 Executive Elections in April.
Simon put forward his candidacy driven by a desire to actively contribute to positive change rather than simply discussing it. His belief in action over mere words led them to take this step, aspiring to make a meaningful difference for students.
Expressing his goals on behalf of UCD College of Business students, Simon outlined that he wants to see more affordable cafeteria food and drink more affordable, particularly focusing on reducing costs at Smurfit to match those at Belfield. Further to this, he hopes his term will emphasise the importance of fostering a stronger connection between the Smurfit and Belfield campuses, encompassing transportation, societies, events, and off-campus awareness.
Intriguingly, Simon is an avid Parkour enthusiast, having practised the discipline for approximately eight years. He invites fellow Business students to connect, share concerns, suggest changes, or simply engage in a friendly conversation.
